LUCIGNANO AND SURROUNDINGS
The Casale di Lucullo is located on the hill of
Lucignano, a charming medieval town called "the pearl of the Valdichiana", orange flag of the Italian Touring Club and member of the association "the most beautiful villages in Italy".
Already present in the Villanovan and Etruscan times, during the first century BC it was the seat of the legions of Lucio Licinio Lucullo, in whose honor the city was renamed Lucinianum.
In the late Middle Ages it became a Medici city, the fortress was built and urban development continued, with the characteristic helical plan that still characterizes it today .
The town is famous all over the world for the Maggiolata, a traditional Spring festival with a parade of wonderful floats made up of thousands of flowers;
they parade in the last two Sundays of May, the coveted Golden Griffon goes to the winning district, everything proceeded from the stripping of the floats, whose flowers are thrown by the districts, giving life to a singular "battle of flowers".
The municipal museum welcomes among its priceless works "The Golden Tree" also called Tree of Life and Love, an original and unique goldsmith reliquary in the world; it took about 120 years of work to make it happen.
According to tradition, many couples from all over the world still today swear eternal love in front of this tree.
Lucignano is located in the heart of the Val di Chiana; within 40 km it is possible to reach renowned tourist resorts such as Cortona, Arezzo, Castiglion Fiorentino, Civitella in Val di Chiana, Pienza, Monticchiello, Bagno Vignoni, Chianti, Val D'Orcia, Montepulciano, Montalcino, etc.
